Just imagine...
A fleet of decorated elephants, strolling one after the other, carrying gold-laminated Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Ashtanga Hrudaya, Madhava Nidana, Sharangdhara Samhitas, and fully blossomed herbs like Harad, Baheda, Amala, and Ashwagandha, followed by legendary vaidyas being riding luxurious buggies, followed by young vaidyas riding on jingling horses, followed by tableaus (like the ones seen in the 26 January Parade at Delhi) of all ayurveda colleges, organizations, and companies... What a panoramic view would make such an Ayurveda Mahayatra? Sounds incredible, like a dream? Oh, No! This fantastic shobha-yatra is being organized on December 18. Before that, on December 16 & 17, a seminar focussed at the exaltation, glorification, and veneration of our ancestors, the ancient ayurvedic sages, like Maharshi Charaka, Maharshi Sushruta, Maharshi Vagbhatta, would be organized. In addition, a lot more would also be there... to see...learn...adopt...and grow...
AYURVED MAHARUNA YATRA
SADGRANTHO-NO-MAHOTSAVA 16-17-18 DECEMBER
My Dear Vaidyaraj, Namaste, How do you do?

Today I am going to reveal to you a great big secret. Our Lord Dhanwantari, the one holding the Amruta-kumbha in his hand, and who we venerate, adore and worship, and in front of whose picture we light sacred lamps on all occasions of ayurveda?!! Do you know his Amruta-kumbha is utterly empty?!!! Now just look at the whole scenario that took place as Lord Dhanwantari, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, emerged with the Amrut-kumbha at the time of Samudra-manthana. In just a few moments, a fierce row over who would drink the Amruta, erupted between devas and danavas. And, before long the kumbha was gone from his hands?!! And, in the chaos that followed, the kumbha got severely defiled. Though Danavas were equally entitled for the Amruta, it were devas who managed to drink the Amruta. Even Lord Vishnu had to be a party in it. However, during the ongoing pandemonium two three drops of Amruta splashed out on Earth. Later on, the same formed the basis of all the medicinal herbs growing on the Earth, so goes the saying. For this reason Lord Dhanwantari came to be regarded as the Lord of medicinal herbs. For obvious reasons, it is the medicinal herbs that are the recipients of the entire blessings of Lord Dhanwantari. And, the medicinal herbal market is flourishing fast globally. Looking at the 4-pillars of Medical Treatment – bhishak, aushadh, upasthata, and rogi – one finds that medicinal herbal (aushadh) market is growing enormously, thanks to the blessings of Lord Dhanwanatri, super-specialty hospital (upasthata) culture too is growing rapidly, thanks to the big investors, and the patients (rogi) have been showing their all-time love for ayurveda – in this way, these three pillars have been receiving massive backing from the society. Only, the most important of the 4-pillars, the bhishak, has remained modest, deprived, and pitiable.
Isn’t it true?
Is it an exaggeration?............................ Why is it so?..............................

The reason is simple. While we vaidyas commemorate Lord Dhanwantari, we never remember our venerable ancestors like Maharshi Charaka, Maharshi Sushruta, Maharshi Vagabhatta, Maharshi Bhavamishra, Maharshi Sharangdhara, Maharshi Madhavakara, etc. Perhaps, one key factor why our vaidyas have ever been miserable and sad is, they have don’t receive the blessings of these revered ancestors? This questions needs to be answered. Isn’t it? Ironically, while we pay rich tributes to Lord Dhanwantari who did not jot down a single word for vaidyas, we never think of sages like Maharishi Charaka etc. who spent their lifetimes writing huge manuscripts of ayurveda. It is sheer stupidity! It amounts to utter ingratitude! Should such a behavior be adopted? What to do then? In my view, while maintaining our full devotion for Lord Dhanwanatri, we should love, honour, and remember our ancestors like Maharashi, Charaka, Maharshi Sushruta, etc.....
With such a dream in my heart I along with many other vaidyas have organized a procession in Ahmedabad City in which ancient ayurvedic texts of Maharshi Charaka and others and herbs like Harad, Baheda, Amala, and Ashwagandha, etc. would be carried on horse-backs, and elephant-backs.
It is
AYURVED MAHARUN YATRA – 2011
SADGRANTHO-NO-MAHOTSAV 16-17-18 DECEMBER
So, what do you say now? How do you find this dream? Would you like to realize it? Come...
irrespective of whether you are a student, graduate, undergraduate, teacher, practitioner of ayurveda. Come... if you feel from the core of your heart that everything I own today – wealth, respect, position, power – is due to our fatherly figures like Maharshi Charaka, Maharshi Sushruta etc. We welcome you from our hearts.
Come, enhance the solemnity of this program and participate in it the way you like. We value your contribution be it physical, mental, financial, or spiritual. For, this is your own function.
And lastly, an eye-opener, particularly for you...
Kindly remember that while Kerala leads the nation in terms of literacy (100%), it is the Punjabis who have the highest per capita income!!! But, if watched closely you will find that Punjabis, particularly, the Sikhs, worship the Grantha, as well as, the Guru. They wake up, serve, and put to sleep the Grantha, as do Hindus to Kanaiyya. That is the reason Sikhs are wealthy people. Even scholars like Revered Morari Bapu and Revered Rameshbhai Oza reached their present elevated positions on account of worshipping and reciting the Granthas like Ramayana and Bhagvad Gita, respectively.
Would you come? Would you enhance the glory of the function? Would you encourage us? In if need be, would you rub us? We fervently believe that you would certainly be a part of this rare congregation of students, teachers, vaidyas, and scholars of ayurveda, hailing from every nook and corner of the country.
So, let us all vaidyas adore and worship our SadGranthas, get blessed and be prosperous.
We are your own
